The Great Pyramid of Giza
There are many wonders in this world, created by God and nature, but the 7 ancient wonders, created by human kind are especially impressive. Today, most of us cannot even imagine how those people could manage to build such extraordinary constructions as Colossus of Rhodes or the Great Pyramid of Giza. They did not have any industrial era equipment to help them manage the task, but the size and scale of those constructions are amazing.
Mount Everest
Mount Everest is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. It is an amazing place. The mountain the part of the Himalayan ridge. Two countries surround this peak: Nepal and Tibet. The history of both countries is closely related to this mountain. This mountain has two other names Sagarmatha and Jomolungma. The first name means the goddess of the sky. The later is the chinese name, which means Holy Mother.
Christ the Redeemer
Unlike the Colossus of Rhodes, which lasted only for 60 years, the statue of Christ the Redeemer stands for 80 years and most likely will last much longer. Christ the Redeemer is listed among the largest monuments in the world. In fact, it is the second largest Art Deco style statue in the world. There is nothing to be surprised of that in 2007 it was called one of new 7 wonders of the world. Its location place is Brazil, Rio de Janeiro. It stands on the tallest mountain of this bay, called Corcovado. 2 300 feet is the height of Corcovado mount and this territory belongs to Tijuca Forest National Park. The statue itself is 124 ft tall. The span of the statue’s wide spread arms is almost 100 ft. Christ the Redeemer statue is made of soapstone and reinforced concrete. Its construction was begun in 1922 and it took them 9 years to finish it. The opening of the statue was in 1931. The overall costs of construction reached 250 000 US dollars. The weight of Christ the Redeemer statue is 635 tons.
Colosseum
Colosseum is the third wonder on the new 7 wonders of the world list. It is situated in the eternal city – Rome, Italy. As most of the other new 7 wonders of the world, such as Christ the Redeemer statue or Taj Mahal, it has become the icon of its city and its country. Colosseum ruins probably are the most tremendous ruins in the world. This arena was built back in 1st century B.C. by Roman emperor Vespasian. Romans took great pride in it and declared it to be the largest amphitheatre in the ancient world. The first ancient name of Colosseum is Amphitheatrum Flavium, because it was built during the reign of Flavium family emperors. Three of them got the chance to rule, while the Colosseum was built.
